Decanter, April 2022

Up to a full quarter of Cabernet Franc in this vintage, which may have helped bring the alcohol degree down a little. Gorgeous balance, juicy and rich, with blackberry and black cherry. It has plenty of St-Émilion...

Fantastic aromas of crushed berries, lavender and blueberries. Full-bodied, dense and layered yet always polished and beautiful. Really impressive. Drink in 2020.

(92-94 points) Flowers, espresso, plum, truffle, chocolate notes, this wine is supple, round, ripe, sensuous, pure, clean and fresh. A very elegant, vintage for Fleur Cardinale, this wine is produced from a blend of 75%...

janeanson.com, October 2021

A more subdued vintage in St Emilion than in some parts of Bordeaux, notably the northern Médoc, and yet this is still a confident and highly enjoyable wine. Still tightly wound even at nine years old, but there is no...

Wine Spectator, March 2017

Lush, with lots of warm fig and boysenberry confiture flavors. Shows ample muscle thanks to lots of brambly grip. Mouthfilling licorice root and fruitcake notes grace the finish. Fleshes out well in the glass. A bit of a...

Chateau Fleur Cardinale is located on a limestone plateau just a few miles from the historic village of Saint-Emilion. Due to continuous investments in the vineyard and in the winery, and its consistent quality, Chateau Fleur Cardinale was promoted to the rank of Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classe in 2006, and re-confirmed in 2012.

In 2011, the owners also acquired Chateau Croix Cardinale, next to the main estate. They now offer four wines: Chateau Fleur Cardinale, Chateau Croix Cardinale, Secret de Cardinale, and Bois Cardinale.

The two properties include 23.5 hectares for Chateau Fleur Cardinale and 4 hectares for Chateau Croix Cardinale. Both vineyards are planted on clay-limestone soil in the middle of the hillsides, and enjoy an identical harvest time.

Varietal distribution is 75% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The growing methods used at Chateau Fleur Cardinale are traditional, and the thinning of crops and leaves is done without chemicals.

The grand vin of Chateau Fleur Cardinale displays a deep color and powerful ripe fruit aromas mingling with floral notes. Feminine in style, the wines have a seductive, rich mouth-feel, underpinned by elegant, silky tannins. The finish is long and harmonious, promising very long aging potential in bottle.

The 2014 Fleur Cardinale Bordeaux Blend from the Saint Emilion region of Bordeaux, France, is a red wine produced by Fleur Cardinale. This vintage, composed of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, is aged in 100% new French oak barrels and has an alcohol content of 14.0%.

James Suckling awarded this wine a high score of 94, praising its "fantastic aromas of crushed berries, lavender, and blueberries." He described it as "full-bodied, dense, and layered yet always polished and beautiful," concluding that it is "really impressive" and suggesting it be enjoyed from 2020 onwards.

Wine Spectator's JM also gave this wine a strong score of 92, noting its "lush" profile with "lots of warm fig and boysenberry confiture flavors." The review highlighted the wine's "ample muscle" and "brambly grip," along with "mouthfilling licorice root and fruitcake notes" on the finish. JM pointed out that while the wine is "a bit of a hefty style," it is "well done" and will be at its best between 2020 and 2030.

Jeff Leve from The Wine Cellar Insider also rated the wine 94 points, mentioning its "flowers, espresso, plum, truffle, chocolate notes," and describing it as "supple, round, ripe, sensuous, pure, clean, and fresh." Leve emphasized the wine's elegance and pointed out that it is produced from grapes reaching 14% alcohol.

Decanter's review, provided in 2022, highlighted the wine's "gorgeous balance, juicy and rich" character, with "blackberry and black cherry" flavors. Scoring it 94 points, the review noted the wine's "powerful gourmet edge" and "flexible tannins," adding that it is a "wine that is getting into its stride" with a "slightly raspy slate edge to the finish."

Jane Anson, who awarded the wine 92 points, described it as a "more subdued vintage in St Emilion" but still a "confident and highly enjoyable wine." She noted that although it is "still tightly wound even at nine years old," it can be enjoyed now with a few hours of decanting to open up its "smoky, cocoa bean, brioche, and espresso-edged cassis fruits."

Overall, the 2014 Fleur Cardinale Bordeaux Blend is highly regarded for its balance, complexity, and rich flavors. It has received consistently excellent reviews from multiple respected critics, making it a noteworthy choice for wine enthusiasts.
