An attractively well-layered nose features notes of Meyer lemon, brioche, apple and floral nuances that introduce equally complex if not especially refined flavors that are supported by moderate effervescence on the distinctly toasty finish. This offers good depth but it's a bit coarse relative to the best here.

Clear in color with a fine bead. Subtle aromas of biscuit and fresh bread are accented by high-toned citrus in the tightly focused bouquet. The palate is pretty reined in as the attack is understated with most of the excitement in the backpalate where lemon candy flavors have an almost viscous presence. A touch of spice and nuts add some dry firmness to the finish. (Cork 0612)

A blend of 50 percent pinot noir, 40 percent chardonnay and ten percent meunier, this is unusually full and round in aroma, particularly considering that it's based on the 2007 harvest, although it could be that the 30 percent of reserve wine from 2006 is lending it a bit of weight. The red-fruit flavors are dark and even a little meaty in tone, but despite this the wine feels lively and light on its feet, buttressed by firm acidity and classic notes of chalk.

The NV Brut Tradition is a deep, powerful wine bursting at the seams with fruit. Melon, white flowers and minerals are some of the notes that take shape in the glass. This is a deceptively mid-weight wine, yet there is plenty of power to back the fruit. The Brut Tradition is another strong effort from Diebolt Vallois. This is Lot LT09. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015. -AG

Pale gold. Aromas of white flowers, tangerine and honey, with a spicy topnote. Juicy and precise, with vibrant citrus fruit and melon flavors that are supported and lifted by a chalky mineral note. Clings impressively on the finish, which leaves intense floral and blood orange notes behind. This is one of the best versions of this bottling I can recall tasting.

Soft and creamy, this Champagne offers flavors of orange liqueur, date, honeycomb and toasted almond, balanced by fresh, juicy acidity, with a zesty, spice-tinged finish. Drink now through 2014. 150 cases imported. -AN
