about this wine:

Krug Grande Cuvée is the timelessly stylish signature of Krug, a breathtaking champagne that effortlessly balances richness and freshness, power and finesse. Out of contrast, harmony - a sensational taste experience.

A gleaming gold colour, an extravagantly expansive bouquet, an almost creamy texture. Then, an explosion of flavours, at once mellow and mature, crisp and clean.
Toast - Soft spices - Dried fruit - Candied fruit

Krug Grande Cuvée is the supreme demonstration of the Krug art of blending. No recipe can define its intricate harmony, so every year the Krug family works from taste and memory alone to recreate this most complex of champagnes. Typically, Krug Grande Cuvée is blended from as many as 50 wines from three grape varieties, 20 to 25 growths, and six to ten different years.

Chuck Hayward, JJ Buckley, October 2010

Golden straw color with fine subtle beading, aromas of very refined oak are sophisticated and poised, rather than overpowering. Along with the gentle wood notes are subtle aromas of honey and citrus blossom. The palate is rich with mouthfilling textures and seamlessly integrated flavors, yet like the bouquet, still shows a measure of restraint. This is not a shy Champagne yet maintains elegance in the light, refined finish. Of all of the Champagnes with strong oak presence, this clearly shows deft winemaking with an appropriate amount of restraint that allows the core of fruit to shine.

Quite a complex nose with many layers. Not yet fully married but attention grabbing. 17.5/20

The NV Brut Grande Cuvee emerges from the glass with freshly cut flowers, almonds, pastry and spices. This is a relatively floral, bright Grande Cuvee with fewer of the oxidative qualities that are typical of the house style. According to Krug's ID Code, this bottle is based on the 2004 vintage, which explains the wine's tense, taut personality. Another year or two on the cork will only help the wine gain expressiveness and depth. Today, the Grande Cuvee is quite reticent and not showing the full breadth of its personality. This bottle carries ID Code: 211024. Disgorged: Summer 2011.Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020. -Antonio Galloni

(L1D211024): Bright yellow-gold. Expressive, toasty bouquet of poached pear, white peach and orange zest, with toasted nut and anise nuances adding complexity. Dry and focused on the palate, offering ripe orchard fruit, buttered toast and ginger flavors that gain weight with air. Shows a suave blend of richness and tension, finishing with excellent clarity and lingering smoke, nut and gingerbread flavors. I'll bet that this Champagne will be even better with another five to ten years of bottle age.

This is the best release of Grande Cuvée we’ve tasted in the last several years, a wine that lives up to its historical greatness with Burgundian richness and Champenoise complexity. It’s layered, intense, almost tannic in its grip, bringing high notes of chamomile and allspice to leaven the resinous butterscotch and chalk cave depths. A heady and immense multivintage blend.

Resplendent in its new shiny gold label, Krug is a majestic Champagne. Its velvet texture, dominated by mature flavors, is toasty and rich, dense and complex. In the mouth, its beautiful roasted almond, spice and ripe pears all balance impressively. Could the wine be getting even better? No question-this is still one of the greatest nonvintage Champagnes. R.V.

Very fine on the palate, with a lovely texture, carrying layered flavors of patisserie pear, dried apricot, smoked almond, crystallized honey and a hint of kumquat. Vibrant and mouthwatering, featuring a long finish of ground cumin and ginger. Drink now through 2022. –AN

About Winery

Since 1843, with unique single-mindedness and sense of purpose, the Krug family has proudly cultivated the markedly individual character of their exceptional champagne. Theirs is a living legend, a certain idea of excellence that has been quietly redefined through six generations without a break.

Krug's founder, Johann-Joseph Krug, was a maverick who turned his back on a comfortable position in an established champagne house to strike out on his own. He had not only the vision, but also the talent, to achieve his ambition of creating a champagne with a taste quite unlike any other.
