Medium garnet core fades to a brick rim. Though it takes some coaxing, with air the bouquet reveals dried plum and black cherry, along with tobacco, savory mushroom and roasted meat, followed by a faint herbal note. Medium-bodied on entry, with tart cherry, damp earth, pepper and iron-tinged minerality. Balanced acidity helps to maintain freshness while fine tannins add structure, from the mid palate through the pleasant finish. A classic 1979, this should be enjoyed in the near-term, with duck or roast chicken.

About Winery

Situated on the St Martin de Mazerat plateau, immediately to the west of the old town, Beau-Séjour Bécot lies in the very heart of the Saint-Emilion appellation area. Since Gallo-Roman times, the site has been devoted to wine growing.  Château Beau-Séjour Bécot is today a substantial 16.6-hectare (41-acre) holding on a perfectly uniform terroir. Michel Bécot retired in 1985, turning over the management of the
Château to his two sons Gérard and Dominique.
