92 points,

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 1993

This is a classic Margaux in the sense of its elegance and fragrance. A perfumed bouquet of blackcurrants, minerals, flowers, and smoky oak is persistent. This medium-bodied, rich, elegant wine is one of the less powerful examples of the Mentzelopoulos/Pontallier regime, but it is still concentrated and deep. Fully mature, it is delicious to drink and should continue to evolve gracefully for another 15-20 years. Last tasted, 7/93.

This wine is just now reaching full maturity, much later than I initially expected. It is a classy, elegant example of Margauxpossessing a dark ruby/purple color, and a moderately intense nose of sweet black currant fruit intermixed with minerals, vanillin, and floral scents. The wine is medium-bodied, with beautifully sweet fruit. This linear, more compressed style of Margaux possesses a good inner-core of sweet fruit, and a charming, harmonious personality. Although not a blockbuster, it is aging effortlessly, and appears to take on more character with each passing year. Anticipated maturity: Now-2010. Last tasted 12/96

About Winery

Chateau Margaux's estate dates back to at least  the 12th century. Multiple changes of ownership, including a state seizure during the French revolution, finally left the estate in the hands of the Mentzelopoulus family. Subsequent reinvestment in the vineyards and in the cellar during the late 1970's have been well-rewarded, beginning with the successful 1978 vintage. Today,Corinne Mentzelopoulus oversees the estate's production of its flagship wine as well as its Pavillon Rouge and Pavillon Blanc offerings.
