A mature dark plum color with considerable amber at the edge is followed by copious aromas of caramel, coffee, jammy cherry fruit, and sweet herbs. Fleshy, succulent, and low in acidity, this seductive, sweet, fat Pomerol has reached its peak of maturity, where it should remain for another 5-8 years. It is an impressively complex, delicious wine, although not a blockbuster.

...revealing a dark garnet color with some amber at the edge as well as a big, sweet nose of kirsch liqueur, licorice, Asian spices, incense, and roasted herbs. This round, generous 1982 should be drunk up over the next 3-4 years.

Saturated dark red. Liqueur-like aromas of red berries, rose petal, mocha, roast coffee and animal fur really compelling retention of fruit. Thick and powerful but still rather backward, with an edge of acidity and a cool whiff of menthol adding to the impression of structure. Quite powerful on the back end. Can't match the greatest vintages of this wine for sheer otherworldly extract and concentration, but this is a superb vintage for Latour a Pomerol, probably the best since '61.

A solid '82 Pomerol with good richness. Good deep-ruby, garnet color. Black olive, cherry, ripe fruit nose. Medium-bodied, with velvety tannins and a fresh fruit, tobacco and meat finish. Not as great as I remember, but an outstanding bottle all the same.--1982 Bordeaux horizontal. Drink now. –JS
