Tasted 7 Times After Bottling With Consistent Notes Ausone's 1983 is a powerful, rich, full-bodied wine with a higher alcohol content than normal. Medium ruby, rich, and jammy, with low acidity but great concentration as well as that glorious perfume of minerals and Asian spices, this wine should last 15-20 years, but provide fine drinking early on - a rarity for Ausone. Anticipated maturity: now-2010.

Medium red with some amber at the rim. Deep, smoky aromas of red fruits, marzipan, truffle, earth and leather. Vinous, minerally and penetrating, with a suggestion of liqueur-like ripeness. Firm, bright and classy, with excellent grip. Finishes fairly tannic but long and sweet. A somewhat exotically styled Ausone that nonetheless displays considerable class. Drink now through 2015. 92 points

Big fruity Bordeaux with loads of raspberry and jam character. Full-bodied and tannic, but round and medium in finish. Needs time; only beginning to come out. Try after 1997.--The Bordeaux 50. –JS
