1986 Latour, Chateau Bordeaux Blend
Reviews of 1986 Latour, Chateau Bordeaux Blend
90 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate June 2000 Tasted from my cellar, the 1986 has consistently been outstanding, falling short of being sublime. The spicy, peppery bouquet reveals aromas of dried herbs and red currant fruit. Medium-bodied, austere, but youthful, vigorous, and concentrated, this wine still requires 4-5 years of cellaring. It is surpassed in this vintage (which favored the northern Medoc and Cabernet Sauvignon) by its rivals, Lafite-Rothschild and Mouton-Rothschild. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2020.
96 points, Wine Spectator December 1997 Seems to be gaining in strength and depth. Incredibly rich, with meat, plum, cassis and tobacco flavors, harmonious, clean and long. Beginning to be approachable.--Latour vertical. Best after 2003.

Eric B. December 2007 Purchased two bottles at a charity auction. Was really looking forward to trying 'top of the world' producer as my wine budget generally is under $100 per bottle. What a disappointment! Drank with three other knowledgeable friends and we all it agreed it must have just been past it's prime as both bottles were exactly the same. No fruit, structure or finish. Can't imagine having spent $375 per bottle and would not stretch the budget again for this vintage. |
