I believe the 1989 Cantemerle is this estate's finest wine since their monumental 1953. This ruby/purple wine has an explosive bouquet of crushed blackberry fruit and violets, an opulent, lush texture bolstered by good alcohol levels and soft tannins. Anticipated maturity: 1994-2010.

I believe the 1989 Cantemerle is this estate's finest wine since their monumental 1953. The Merlot was picked late, September 14th, then the harvest was stopped to wait for the Cabernet to ripen physiologically. The last Cabernet was brought in on October 9th. This ruby/purple wine has an explosive bouquet of crushed blackberry fruit and violets, an opulent, lush texture bolstered by good alcohol levels and soft tannins. In several tastings of southern Medocs (principally Margaux wines), this was the star of the show. Here is an impressive combination of elegance and power. Anticipated maturity: 1994-2010. Tasted four times. Consistent notes.

Huge wine. Dark ruby-colored. Intense aromas of ripe fruit and game. Full-bodied and compacted, with masses of tannins and fruit, yet still closed and not giving much on the palate. Give this brute time. Best Cantemerle ever?--1989 Bordeaux horizontal. Best after 2004. (JS)
