1989 Cantemerle Bordeaux Blend
Reviews of 1989 Cantemerle Bordeaux Blend
91 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate February 1993 I believe the 1989 Cantemerle is this estate's finest wine since their monumental 1953. This ruby/purple wine has an explosive bouquet of crushed blackberry fruit and violets, an opulent, lush texture bolstered by good alcohol levels and soft tannins. Anticipated maturity: 1994-2010.
91 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate April 1992 I believe the 1989 Cantemerle is this estate's finest wine since their monumental 1953. The Merlot was picked late, September 14th, then the harvest was stopped to wait for the Cabernet to ripen physiologically. The last Cabernet was brought in on October 9th. This ruby/purple wine has an explosive bouquet of crushed blackberry fruit and violets, an opulent, lush texture bolstered by good alcohol levels and soft tannins. In several tastings of southern Medocs (principally Margaux wines), this was the star of the show. Here is an impressive combination of elegance and power. Anticipated maturity: 1994-2010. Tasted four times. Consistent notes.
95 points, Wine Spectator May 1999 Huge wine. Dark ruby-colored. Intense aromas of ripe fruit and game. Full-bodied and compacted, with masses of tannins and fruit, yet still closed and not giving much on the palate. Give this brute time. Best Cantemerle ever?--1989 Bordeaux horizontal. Best after 2004. (JS)

About 1989 Cantemerle Bordeaux Blend
About the Winery Cantemerle
Lining a majestic courtyard, its beautiful neo-Classical architecture bears witness to the high esteem in which wine has been held by the successive owners of Cantemerle. These lovely buildings, in perfect harmony with the rest of the estate, nonetheless contain state-of-the-art technology. They are home to three temperature-controlled vats with a total capacity of 8500 hl, a wooden vat of 4000 hl for old vines, a 2500-hl stainless steel vat mainly used for young vines, and a 2500-hl cement vat used for blending. The adjoining cellars ,all air-conditioned, are home to 2000 barrels.
About the Wine
22,000 cases made. Quality at this property has been rising dramatically over the last
several vintages. Cantemerle will never be a blockbuster claret, but
rather one built on finesse and elegance.
