1990 Silverado Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Limited Reserve
Cabernet Sauvignon: 750ml
$89.99
about this wine:
"Intense and concentrated, with effusive aromas of cassis, candied cherry and black olive. A rich core of dark stone fruit is accented by flavors of clove and chocolate. Like all SLD Cabernets, it's rock soft. On land that has supported vines since the 1880s, our home vineyard was the third property planted to Cabernet Sauvignon in what would later become the Stags Leap District, and fruit from this property helped establish the area's reputation in the 1970s. Our Single-Vineyard Selection is produced entirely from grapes grown in this vineyard, which stretches across the gentle slopes below the winery's tasting room. It displays the ripe and complex fruit, supple texture, and solid structure that helped define the District, the most distinctive Cabernet-growing region in the Napa Valley. Grapes were picked fully ripe with yields of 4.3 tons to the acre. Fermentation was followed by an extended maceration for an average of 25 days on the skins. The wine averaged 22 months in French oak barrels, 80 percent of which were new. The 1,446 cases of this all-Cabernet blend were bottled in September 2003."

Amazing fruit purity and depth to this stunning wine (though one bottle tried tasted drier and tannic), rich with bright, sharply focused blackcherry, currant, plum, anise and cedary tobacco, showing concentration and complexity.--California Cabernet retrospective. Drink now through 2015. 2,994 cases made. –JL
