95 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate December 1995 Of all the extraordinary wines emanating from California in recent years, one of the most remarkable achievements must be the two cuvees of Cabernet Sauvignon made by Naoka and Gustav Dalla Valle, with the capable assistance of consulting winemaker, Heidi Barrett. Dalla Valle's Cabernet Sauvignon is a pure, unbridled expression of this varietal at its most powerful and concentrated. The proprietary red wine, named after the owners' daughter, Maya, is usually a blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc (the greatest Cabernet Franc I have tasted in the New World). These are wines of immense stature and richness. It seems nearly impossible that one could pack so much intensity and flavor into a wine without either the wine or the tannin coming across as heavy-handed. Since 1990, all of the Maya offerings have possessed extremely well-integrated tannin and acidity.
93 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate December 1996 Although closed, the 1993 Cabernet Sauvignon is crammed with so much sweet, blackcurrant fruit that it does not take a genius to figure out what this wine is all about. It offers an opaque garnet/purple color, a moderately intense, cassis, smoky, herb, and earthy nose, fabulous concentration, good muscle, and a boatload of sweet tannin. While drinkable, it needs another 4-5 years of cellaring. It will easily last for 20 years. The 1993s and 1994s are in bottle, and the 1993s, which were released several months ago, are disappearing before any bottles hit the retail shelf. Readers who could neither afford nor find the Cabernet Sauvignon or Maya Proprietary Red, will have to wait another ten months for the release of the 1994s. Production at Dalla Valle has dropped, largely because of the phylloxera damage to the vineyard, and the consequent replanting. For example, the production in 1993 was 40% less than that in 1992. The quantities of wine in 1994 will be equally small. Not until the late nineties is production expected to return to its former level.

About the Winery Dalla Valle
Dalle Valle is a small, family-owned winery that was founded in 1986.
The winery and vineyards are located 400 feet above the valley floor in
Oakville, Napa Valley. Perfect sun exposure combines with the cooling
Pacific breeze to produce world class fruit. Dalle Valle produces some
of the most sought-after Carbernet Sauvignons and Proprietary Blends.
The red, rocky soils of Dalla Valle Vineyardsare composed of fractured
rock of volcanic origin with some clay loam and soil. Yields are low,
averaging one to one and a half tons per acre. The fruit from Dalla
Valley Vinyeards is powerfully concentrated and it produces wines that
are rich and immense in stature with balanced tannin and acidity.
About the Wine
"Charming, forward and approachable despite its youth. Ripe berries, mocha, toasted malt, incense and jasmine on the nose and palate. The sweet, high-toned nose is followed by a palate that nicely reflects the elegant refinement found year in and year out in our Cabernet...blended with a small amount of Cabernet Franc and aged in fifty to sixty percent new French oak barrels. This wine is consistent in its sleek sophistication, impressive structure and velvety berry flavors vintage after vintage—classic Napa Valley Cabernet in every facet. On average, approximately two thousand cases of this wine produced a year..."
