1994 Silver Oak Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa

Cabernet Sauvignon: 1500ml

$279.99

about this wine:

The core of the Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Soda Canyon vineyard, a marvelous hillside site with tightly spaced vines planted in rocky, well-drained soils. The lushly flavored wines from this vineyard provide a rich foundation for the Napa blend.

93 points,

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, December 1998

The 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Cabernet Franc) reveals toasty sweet oak in the nose, bombastic levels of black currant fruit and spice along with a hint of mint in the background. Supple and full-bodied, with delirious levels of cedar and unctuously-textured fruit, this fleshy, gorgeously made Cabernet Sauvignon should drink well for 14-15 years.

90 points,

Stephen Tanzer's IWC, June 1999

Ruby-red color. Very ripe aromas of roasted plum, red raspberry, maple syrup, smoke and scotch. Dense but bright and youthful. Flavors are still rather primary and high-pitched. Finishes rather tannic, but the tannins are smooth. This wine should undergo an interesting evolution in bottle-in contrast to some past vintages of this wine, which have not gained noticeably in complexity with bottle aging. 90(+?) points

91 points,

Wine Spectator, November 2004

Dark, plush and concentrated, with a decided coconut and oak accent mixed with complex plum and berry flavors. Finishes with a rich, focused, generous aftertaste, with fine length. Deftly balanced.--California Cabernet '74/'84/'94 retrospective. Drink now through 2009. (JL)

About Winery

Entrepreneur Raymond Twomey Duncan first visited the Napa Valley in the late 1960s. Taken by the area's rugged beauty, and the potential of its fledgling wine industry, he soon began purchasing orchards, pastures and vineyards throughout the Napa and Alexander Valleys.

Looking for an insider to advise him, Ray approached Justin Meyer in 1972, asking him to plant and manage his vineyards. Then a winemaker for the Christian Brothers, Justin agreed under one condition: In addition to growing grapes, he wanted to create a winery that would forever raise the standards of California wine. Silver Oak Cellars was born.

In 1972, Silver Oak's Alexander Valley vineyards produced the harvest that would become our first Cabernet Sauvignon. Seven years later, grapes were harvested for their first Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, now produced as a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varietals. From the beginning, these two wines have consistently represented the very best of their appellations, attracting a loyal following across the country and around the world.
