96 points,

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, December 1998

The 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is similar in all respects to the Napa Valley, but somewhat heavier in the mouth, with an aggressive tannic bite, and more length. It possesses mineral-tinged blackberry and cassis fruit, massive body, and extraordinary purity and length. It should not be touched for 12-15 years. It will undoubtedly live through the first half of the next century.

93 points,

Stephen Tanzer's IWC, November 1998

Dark ruby-red. Brooding, pure aromas of black fruits, licorice, nutmeg and venison. Even more intensely flavored than the Napa bottling, like an essence of small dark berries complicated by licorice and mint. Juicy acidity gives the flavors terrific thrust and persistence. Finishes with firm but not excessive tannins. 93+

About Winery

Randy Dunn is a celebrated maker of heirloom California Cabernets.  Dunn began his career with Caymus Winery where he produced some of Caymus' most distinguished Cabernets. He purchased his own land in Howell Mountain in 1979 and he currently produces about 5,000 cases of his Howell Mountain Cabernets. They also produce a second label from the surrounding Napa Valley appellations and he acquires the grapes for this wine from John Caldwell's vineyard. Dunn devotes himself to his property and to the Dunn label but still remains one of the valley's most esteemed consultants.  He has been extremely influential on the stylistic development of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
