about this wine:
"Making their debut in 2003, the youngest Cabernet Sauvignon vines (located on the Sonoma portion of our mountaintop property) make a stunning contribution to the first Pride Cabernet bearing a label that indicates the estate's unique position straddling the county line... the bright cherry and clove aromas in this elegantly muscular wine indicate a thoroughly rich and ripe Cabernet. Cassis and currant flavors envelope the palate, framed by a full and even tannin spectrum. Enjoyable in its youth as all of the Pride wines are, ample acidity and brightness of fruit guarantee the long-term aging potential of this beautiful wine...The richest vineyard blocks are barrel aged for an additional six months, bottled in extremely small quantities. These 100% varietals are then bottle aged for eight months prior to release. This wine is produced in extremely limited quantities and is made available only to the winery's most loyal consumers."

The 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve has come of age now that it is in the bottle. This is the essence of North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon, offering port-like thickness and richness, a superb black currant, mineral, cedar, and pain grille-scented nose, full-bodied flavors of extraordinary intensity and overall balance, and a long, moderately tannic, multidimensional finish. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2025. Shame on me for underestimating this beauty! This is a limited production offering from Pride Mountain Vineyards. Tel. (707) 963-4949

Opaque black-ruby. Tangy cassis and boysenberry fruit on the nose, with complicating notes of leather, curry powder, cocoa, minerals and shoe polish. Pungent, juicy, dark berry fruit of almost painful intensity and concentration; sharply focused and penetrating. Again, I sense a rock-solid mineral spine underneath the sweet fruit. Huge tannins are more than supported by powerful fruit extract. Really explodes and reverberates on the finish. A real fruit bomb.

Amazingly youthful and complex, with layers of vibrant black cherry, blackberry, currant, spice and cedar. Tightly focused on the fruit, with layers of concentration, the Cabernet flavors just keep unfolding. Just as impressive is the balance, as this is a big, rich, expressive wine with ripe, integrated tannins.--1995 California Cabernet retrospective. Drink now through 2012. 308 cases made. –JL
