Superb ruby-red. Slightly high-toned, expressive aromas of blackberry, cassis, licorice, mint and pepper. Generous and oaky in the mouth, with fresh, delineated flavors. The tannins are much more noticeable, and a bit tougher, than those of the '96.

Concentrated and sweet at first, then abruptly turns tannic and angular. The blackberry flavors return on the finish, so give it time. Try in 1999. –PM
