Reviews of 1996 Ceretto Barbaresco Bricco Asili Nebbiolo
91-93 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate August 1999 This wine exhibits a saturated ruby color with purple nuances. Additionally, it is rich, with lots of extract, tannin, and body. The seductive, dark ruby-colored 1996 Barbaresco Bricco Asili offers a classic bouquet of road tar, cherry liqueur, tobacco, and dried herbs. Medium to full-bodied, and surprisingly supple for the vintage, it exhibits firm tannin in the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2014.
90-92 points, Stephen Tanzer November 1998 Ruby red. Deep but extremely reticent nose; this shows very primary hints of cherry, minerals, chocolate and marzipan. Sweet, dense and very concentrated; juicy acidity gives the fruit lovely snap and grip. Finishes with fine, suave tannins and subtle, persistent flavor. A strong wine with considerable potential.
About 1996 Ceretto Barbaresco Bricco Asili Nebbiolo
About the Winery Ceretto
Riccardo Ceretto founded Casa Vinicola Ceretto in the late thirties and
raised his two sons in the wine business of Alba. This next generation
of Ceretto was privy to the sad state of winemaking that existed in
Italy during the 1960s that mainly involved the squandering of precious
resources from the land. This led the Ceretto brothers to engage in the
rebuilding of the Langhe that dramatically altered the region forever
and has helped re-establish the reputation of the Langhe as one of the
finest realms of production in Italy and the world. The Ceretto
brothers, Bruno and Marcello, often called the "I Fratelli del Barolo",
or the Barolo Brothers, have combined to produce truly magnificient
wines. Marcello has taken over the enology and winemaking side of the
production while big brother Bruno has developed innovative approachs
to marketing that has brought attention to the sibling's
collaboration. They do not boast innovation with their wines, but the
continuation and perfection of a centuries-old tradition of Barolo and
Barbaresco winemaking,
