1996 Clos du Val Cabernet Sauvignon
About 1996 Clos du Val Cabernet Sauvignon
About the Winery Clos du Val
"Clos du val" translates in French to "small vineyard estate of the
valley", which was the name given to the 150 acres purchased by Jonh Goelet
and Bernard Portret in 1972. The following year, Goleta and Portret
bought 180 additional acres in Carneros. The first wine Clos du Val
made was the 1972 Cabernet Sauvignon. This
wine was one of the five that was chosen for the famous 1976 Paris
Tasting. Clos du Val continues to produce premium quality Cabernet
Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, and various blends. Bernard Portet is
the head winemaker.
About the Wine
"This intense, complex Cabernet Sauvignon depicts a black color in the core of the glass, as well as layers of purple hues toward the perimeter. The nose exudes aromas of rich black currant fruit, followed by a hint of toast. Flavors of black fruit dominate the palate and lead to a full-bodied, powerful wine that is well-centered and leaves an exceptionally long finish. True to Clos Du Val’s winemaking style, this classic Cabernet Sauvignon yearns to be enjoyed with a filet mignon of equal quality."
