This extraordinary wine is black/purple-colored and displays intense aromas of candied black fruits, cinnamon, Asian spices, and fresh herbs. This massively large, broad, magnificently balanced, proportioned and deeply ripe behemoth coats the palate with super-sweet black cherries and blueberries whose flavors seemingly last forever. Its firm structure and huge oak flavors are drowned in fruit, as are its copious quantities of fine tannins. It should be drunk between 2002 and 2010.

Deep ruby-red. Explosive, superripe nose of black raspberry, iron, smoked meat and roasted coffee. Thick, sweet and velvety, but currently offers more texture than flavor. This is quite unforthcoming in the middle palate. But extremely long on the finish, with fine grained tannins thoroughly supported by extract. May ultimately prove to be richer and finer than Mortet's very strong '95.

Very classy. Almost like blackberry jam it's so concentrated and focused, but a bit rigid at the moment. Great intensity of fruit, richness and supple tannins, finishing with pure fruit. Delicious. Best from 2001 through 2006. 62 cases made. –BS
