94 points,

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 1999

The profound 1997 Solengo vino da tavola (a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon with a tiny dosage of Syrah) is spectacular. Opaque purple-colored, it displays a fabulously sweet nose of creme de cassis, new saddle leather, toasty new oak, licorice, and flowers. This wine boasts amazing richness, a huge, full-bodied impact on the palate (yet no sense of heaviness), low acidity, gorgeous ripeness, and a finish that lasts for 35+ seconds. I predict a brilliant future for this compelling proprietary red wine.

91 points,

Stephen Tanzer's IWC, January 2000

Full, deep ruby. Spicy blackberry and cassis nose shows a roasted torrefaction aspect. Lush, dense and quite primary; generous, full and deep. An exotic hint of mint brightens the dark berry flavors. Finishes very long and ripely tannic.

97 points,

Wine Spectator, November 1999

The best Solengo yet. Rich and thick, with wonderfully complex aromas of berry, vanilla, tobacco and flowers, and full in body, with a complement of finely polished yet velvety tannins. The long, concentrated, fruity finish has currant and toasted oak.

About Winery

In 1581, southwest of Montalcino, the Villa of Argiano was built among vineyards and olive groves. Under the management of Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano, Argiano embarked, in 1992 and thanks to the oenological guidance of the famous master Giacomo Tachis, in a journey committed only to the highest standards of quality and aimed at consolidating its position at the top of the coveted wine market. Adriano Bambagioni, Argiano's supervising cellar master for over 20 years, and the Danish winemaker Hans Vinding-Diers, of world famous reputation, guarantee now the quality of the wines obtained from Sangiovese grosso, the autochthonous grape of Montalcino; ultimate expression of the terroir.
