The profound 1997 Shiraz/Cabernets JSM, made from 61% Shiraz, 24% Cabernet Franc, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon (14.5% alcohol and 2,500 cases produced), is a massive, complex yet elegant, and incredibly harmonious wine. The color is a saturated black/purple. This full-bodied wine is bursting with richness and the complex, savory elements that will make wine lovers go ga-ga. A thrilling, full-flavored offering, this wine is just beginning to strut its stuff. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2015. Celestial black currants intermixed with coffee, licorice, Asian spices, and pain grille notes are more reminiscent of a blockbuster vintage of Mouton-Rothschild than what I would expect from a Shiraz/Cabernets blend.
