The dense black/purple-colored 1998 Syrah Thompson Vineyard (300 cases) displays tell-tale notes of creosote, cassis, blackberries, scorched earth, and smoke. Although it exhibits tannin, there is more than enough richness to balance it out. Full-bodied, mouth-filling, and impressive, it should drink well for 12-15 years.
