93 points,

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2002

...aromas of black currants, blackberries, and wet steel/liquified minerals. The layered, rich, intense 1999 possesses superb fruit purity and medium to full body. This is one of the most concentrated and potentially longest-lived wines of the vintage...

91 -93 points,

Stephen Tanzer's IWC, May 2001

Full, deep ruby. Pungent, multidimensional aromas of sappy cherry, licorice, iron, mocha, espresso and oak spices. Tightly wound today and a bit muscular; less open than the 2000, with its pure, intense berry, spice and mineral flavors under wraps. Very firmly structured and impressively long, with the tannins dominant today. This should be long-lived.

89 points,

Wine Spectator, March 2002

Serious red. Black licorice and spices, with hints of coffee. Medium- to full-bodied, with juicy tannins and a coffee, mocha aftertaste. Needs a bit more fruit in the midpalate...

About Winery

Château Pavie Decesse, a St.Emilion Grand Cru Classé property is now producing wines the equal of its illustrious brother Chateau Pavie. Both properties were previously owned by the Valet family until they were purchased by Gérard Perse, owner of Château Monbousquet, in 1997. Pavie-Decesse is situated in the heart of the Côtes sub-district of St. Emilion, with the vineyards being planted on chalky, clay soils.
