90 points,

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, October 2001

An exceptional offering from Ridge's portfolio is the 1999 Lytton Springs Proprietary Red Wine. This superb blend of 70% Zinfandel, 17% Petite Sirah, 10% Carignan, and 3% Mataro boasts a deep ruby/purple color in addition to a big, sweet bouquet of jammy berries, and a hint of raspberries as well as strawberries. Elegant and full-bodied, with layers of flavor, superb purity, a subtle dosage of American oak, and a full, long finish, it should drink well for 7-8 years.

90 points,

Stephen Tanzer's IWC, May 2001

Bright medium ruby. Black raspberry and loam on the nose. Spicy, smooth and seamless, with lovely concentration and texture. Nicely balanced, thoroughly ripe, gently styled zin, finishing with excellent length and smooth tannins.

89 points,

Wine Spectator, June 2001

Starts out with an earthy, gamy, leathery character, then pulls itself together, offering ripe cherry, plum and raspberry fruit to complement the earthy components. Drink now through 2007. 10,194 cases made. –JL
