1999 San Guido Sassicaia
Proprietary Blend: 750ml
$199.99
about this wine:
"In 1965, the Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta planted two more vineyards comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc; the new "Sassicaia" vineyard was situated approximately 800 feet lower than the original Cabernet vineyard near Castiglioncello, and "Aianova" was slightly more elevated and thus exposed to the weather. Eventually, all of the wine produced on the estate came to be known by the name of Sassicaia."

By Ian D'Agata Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Jan 11 (85% cabernet sauvignon and 15% cabernet franc): Very deep ruby to the rim. Musky aromas of dark plum, blackcurrant and tobacco leaf. Then juicy, intense and sharply delineated, with lovely lift to the flavors of dark berries, minerals and cedar. Wonderfully balanced wine: sound acids leave an impression of great clarity and cut and a fresh, lightweight mouth feel. Finishes with silky, suave, spreading tannins and a very intense, persistent saline/mineral element...

Complex aromas of minerals, berries, tobacco and shells. Full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a succulent, refined aftertaste. A pretty Sass. Best after 2004. 13,000 cases made. -JS
