The 1999 Chardonnay Martinelli Road (a Chardonnay vineyard that is essentially the lower slopes of the Jackass and Jackass Hill Zinfandel vineyards) offers steely, waxy, buttery tropical fruits, great ripeness, good underlying acidity, smoky, leesy characteristics, and a full-bodied, fruit-dominated finish. It should drink well for 2-3 years. It offers a slightly reserved/restrained style.

Reticent, leesy nose combines honey, orange zest, lemon custard and smoky oak. At once more backward and more sophisticated than Martinelli other '99 chardonnays; quite dry but chewy with extract, and sharply delineated. Long, slow-mounting finish. From vines at the foot of the Jackass Vineyard.
