Light cadmium ruby rim, with a deep, dark core. Cool eucalyptus and spicy currant emerge on the bouquet, while black cherry, cedar, forest floor, black tea and spice box come through on entry. Medium-bodied and silky, this beauty unfolds nicely in the glass, with more fruit and lift on the long, lingering finish. Already integrated and very pleasurable now in its early prime, this has the ability to develop further over the next several years. But it's mighty fine at the moment.

Deep ruby/purple in color, with a sweet nose of black currants, earth, licorice, and mineral, the 2000 is relatively powerful and dense for the normally restrained and elegant Beychevelle. Medium to full-bodied, dense, and chewy, it is showing even better out of bottle than it was from cask. While it appears to be the finest example made at Beychevelle since the 1989 and 1982, patience will be required. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020.

Wonderful floral and blackberry aromas follow through to a compressed palate of full-bodied tannins and ripe fruit. Yet very fine and silky on the palate. Best Beychevelle I have had in years. Best after 2009. 2,200 cases made. JS
