Like the 2001, what was once brooding, backward and quite reserved nose has become highly perfumed with subtly spicy black fruit aromas trimmed by a still noticeable if discreetly subtle hint of oak that are followed by restrained, pure, gorgeously sappy and harmonious, completely seductive flavors that possess unusually good weight and volume for the vintage. This is extraordinarily fine and detailed with length that lasts and lasts. Though this will undoubtedly add weight and complexity, it will likely always be understated and refined rather than powerful. In sum, the 2000 is a simply sublime combination of spice, silk and velvet delivered in a perfect sphere of impeccable balance. Incredible by any standard but especially so for the vintage.

Medium red. Highly complex aromas of liqueur-like strawberry, violet, mint, truffle and underbrush. Rich, deep, silky and sweet, with an utterly suave, spherical texture; boasts outstanding nuance and volume. From fruit harvested "on the edge of surmaturite," notes Villaine, adding that the subtle green note typically shown by this grand cru takes several years to develop in the bottle. Finishes very long and ripely tannic. Should age very slowly for a 2000.
