93 points,

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2003

...The corpulent, fleshy, hedonistic 2000 is loaded with concentrated black fruits infused with vanilla and espresso notes. Large-scaled and delicious, it is an attention-getter, but not overdone. The oak is beautifully integrated, the acidity low, and the tannin sizeable but ripe. A blockbuster effort...

Wine Spectator, March 2003

Impressive. Very dark and deep for a red. Intense aromas of crushed blackberries, raspberries and black licorice. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long finish. A big, thick red. A modern, exciting St.-Emilion...

About Winery

Mayne comes from the word "manor", which used to mean "a fine house surrounded by a certain amount of land".

The old description and the modern concept are both eminently suitable to describe this magnificent property built between the end of the 15th and the early 16th centuries. The Laveau family can be traced back to Grand Mayne as early as 1685. Jacques Laveau, was the first to settle at Mayne, but it was his son, Jean, who in 1811, bought Chateau Soutard. That enabled him to extend his estate. Unfortunately, the cascading dominoes of inheritance rapidly put an end to the Laveau empire.

After several other owners, Jean Nony, a wine negociant from the Correze, purchased the current estate Grand Mayne in 1934. Jean Pierre (son of Jean Nony) and Marie Francoise Nony managed the estate from 1977 to 2001. Since the death of her husband, Marie-Francoise continues to manage surrounded by a competent team and her two sons.
