96 points,

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, June 2010

La Conseillante made an excellent wine in 2001, another great one in 2005, and the estate hit home runs in both 2008 and, above all, in 2009. In fact, the latter vintage may well end up being the modern-day reference point for La Conseillante. Nevertheless, there's a lot to be said for this 2000. An elegant, gentle style that is never a blockbuster, the 2000 La Conseillante has a deep ruby/plum/purple color and an unbelievably expressive nose of sweet kirsch liqueur intermixed with raspberries, incense, toast, and licorice. Full-bodied yet ethereal in the sense that it seems to combine power along with eloquence and delicacy, this is a beautifully pure wine that has just hit its plateau of full maturity, although ideally I think it would benefit strongly from another 4-5 years of bottle age and drink well for two to three decades.

90 -93 points,

Stephen Tanzer's IWC, June 2001

Medium-deep ruby. Captivating, perfumed nose combines blackberry, licorice and violet; exotic and sweet. Thick and intensely flavored, with the strong violet and exotic spice character carrying through on the palate. Offers a very firm structure, no doubt largely due to the wine substantial cabernet franc component. Ripe tannins spread out to cover the entire palate. Offers outstanding potential. My sample of the '99 Conseillante was distinctly green. 90-93 points

90 points,

Wine Spectator, March 2003

Vivid aromas of berries, flowers and minerals follow through to a medium-bodied palate, with silky tannins and fresh, clean finish. Not the biggest Conseillante I have tasted, but refined and harmonious. This is getting expensive. Best after 2008. 5,000 cases made. -JS

About Winery

Château La Conseillante is amongst the crème de la crème of Pomerol producers. It can trace its history back to 1735 and has been in the hands of the Nicolas family since 1874. La Conseillante's 13 hectares of vineyards are located on a plateau in eastern Pomerol on the boundary with the St-Emilion appellation. Its vineyards border those of L`Evangile, Petit-Village, Vieux Château-Certan and Cheval Blanc. La Conseillante is a blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec. The grapes are harvested by hand and are then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wine is then aged in small oak casks (90% new) for 18-20 months. It is bottled unfiltered.
