Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 2002

There are 5,200 cases of the 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon, a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Cabernet Franc. This is one of Napa's most promising Cabernets of the vintage. It exhibits a deep ruby/purple color along with sweet aromas of creme de cassis intermixed with licorice and spice box. The wine is seamless, elegant, and intense with plenty of up-front fruit, but not the muscle and overall structure of the 1999. It possesses a strong mid-palate and length, something many 2000s lack. Drink it when released and over the following 12-15 years. (Price not yet determined) Tel. (707) 963-0134; Fax (707) 963-2886

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, December 2003

One of the most successful wines for the vintage, Spottswoode's 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is more forward and lighter than either of its two younger siblings. However, it is impeccably balanced and seamless, revealing the estate's classic blueberry, black currant, mineral, and floral characteristics in its moderately intense aromatics. Pure, rich, and well-proportioned, this is a top-flight success in an irregular vintage. Enjoy it over the next 10-12 years. Tel. (707) 963-0134; Fax (707) 963-2886

A curious mix of rich, racy, rustic wild berry, currant and earthy-leathery flavors that turn progressively drier and more earthy. Drink now through 2012. 5,674 cases made. –JL

About Winery

Spottswoode is a family-owned historic vineyard and winery renowned for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Established in 1882 by George Schonewald, the estate is distinguished by the historic Victorian home depicted on the Spottswoode label. Spottswoode was christened by Mrs. Albert Spotts, who owned the property from 1910 until its purchase in 1972 by Mary Weber Novak and her late husband, Dr. Jack Novak. The first Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon was produced in 1982, exactly one hundred years after the estate's founding. Today, two of Mary's daughters, Beth and Lindy, work for the family winery that each year releases three very special wines: the Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc, and the recently-introduced Lyndenhurst Cabernet Sauvignon. The Novak family is committed to producing wines that faithfully reflect their grape origins. Each Spottswoode wine is known for its refined elegance, balance, and classic structure. Dedicated stewards of their property, the Novaks have farmed organically since 1985 and have pioneered the restoration of their local watershed.
