In principle, this is the luxury cuvee from the vineyards of Haut-Bergey. The spectacular 2000 Branon is one of the exceptional efforts of Pessac-Leognan, and the 2001 is outstanding. Aromas of melted licorice, smoke, crushed stones, truffles, and black currants are followed by an elegant, medium to full-bodied, pure, dense wine with no hard edges. It should evolve quickly, and drink well for 12-13 years.

Viscous and rich, with lots of tobacco, berry and mineral character. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a medium finish. Close to the 2000 in quality. Best after 2007. 415 cases made. (JS)
