2001 Cheval des Andes Proprietary Blend
Reviews of 2001 Cheval des Andes Proprietary Blend
92 points, Wine Spectator September 2003 Supple yet dense, this is full of focused black currant, plum and raspberry fruit, along with taut vanilla, anise, mineral and hot stone notes. Tight finish is held in check by the tannins, but they're finely grained and should evolve nicely with cellaring. Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Debut release for this Bodegas Terrazas de los Andes and Cheval-Blanc joint venture. Best from 2004 through 2007. 2,915 cases made.
About 2001 Cheval des Andes Proprietary Blend
About the Winery Cheval des Andes
Cheval des Andes is owned by the legendary Saint-Emilion producer,
Chateau Cheval Blanc. The wine is sourced from their 50 hectare estate
vineyard planted on its own roots in 1929. The first vintage was 1999
and over time the wine has evolved into having a majority of Malbec in
the blend. New oak is used for the Cabernet component and one-year-old
barrels for the Malbec. Altogether the wine spends 18 months in cask.
