2001 Kistler Chardonnay Durell Vineyard
Reviews of 2001 Kistler Chardonnay Durell Vineyard
94 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate January 2003 The sensational 2001 Chardonnay Durell Vineyard’s light gold color displays a greenish hue, and the bouquet is reticent, offering up notes of minerals and citrus oil. With excellent acidity, abundant minerality, and a long, concentrated finish, this tight but promising 2001 tastes like a grand cru Chablis mixed with a grand cru Cote d’Or white Burgundy. It should drink well for 5-7 years.

92 points, Stephen Tanzer May 2004 Meursault-like aromas of oatmeal, lemon and spices. Offers a much sweeter impression on entry than the McCrea or Dutton, then more mid-palate fat. Continues with Meursault-like flavors of oatmeal, lemon and nuts. But this tactile, chewy wine, despite showing less obvious acidity, is also classically dry. Still a bit youthfully unforthcoming on the back end, but showing excellent length.

About the Winery Kistler
Kistler Vineyards is a small family-owned winery based in the Russian
River Valley. They specialize in the production of Burgundian-style
Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. It was founded in 1978 by the Kistler

25,000 cases per annum. The source their grapes from some of the
finest Napa and Sonoma County vineyards and they produce their own
estate-grown and produced wines as well.
About the Wine
"Old style Burgundian aromas combining light sulfides, hazelnuts and minerals. Compellingly intense and precise on the palate, with its complexity derived from flavors of grilled nuts and stones rather than primary fruit...The Chardonnays from this vintage are well structured, sharply delineated wines which at the same time manage to exhibit a large measure of subtlety and nuance. They are classic wines with a solid core of ripe fruit at their center without being fruit-driven or dominated by transitory floral or high-toned fruit esters, as are so many chardonnays today..."
