2001 Lynch Bages Bordeaux Blend
Reviews of 2001 Lynch Bages Bordeaux Blend
88-91 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate June 2002 Full ruby-violet. Cassis, bitter chocolate and shoe polish on the nose. Rich, vinous and nicely delineated, with intense, youthfully medicinal dark fruit flavors. Not as concentrated or thick as the '00 but classy, firmly tannic and persistent. Still a bit bound-up but with obvious sweetness. Late note of dark chocolate. Daniel Llose, who oversees winemaking at the Cazes properties, noted that the index of polyphenols was actually higher in 2001 than in 2000.
89 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate June 2004 Made in an elegant, approachable style without the blockbuster depth and meat found in the finest vintages (2000 and 1996), this is a dark plum/garnet/ruby-colored, seductive, evolved, delicious 2001. Aromas of black olives, cedar, cassis, damp earth, and licorice, medium to full body, soft tannin, and an easy-going personality...
90 points, Stephen Tanzer May 2004 ..Bright red-ruby. Currant, herbs and smoke on the nose. Rich and suave on entry, then rather closed and austere in the middle palate, with moderately ripe, nicely delineated flavors of currant, cherry, smoke and mint. Best today on the back end, which features broad tannins and subtle lingering flavor...
90 points, Wine Spectator March 2004 Clean and sleek, with tobacco, berry and plum character, medium body and a silky, fresh finish. Firm and balanced...
90 points, Wine Spectator January 2007 Offers gorgeous aromas of currant, chocolate and dried flowers. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long finish. Very pretty. Still tight.--Lynch-Bages non-blind vertical. Best after 2008. 40,830 cases made. –JS

The day I got this wine was a good one it was my birthday. We opened
it almost right away, so typical of my friends and I. We love wine. I wouldn't
say I know allot about it but I know I like. This wine had a cool coloring to
it purple and red. The scents I smelt where cedar, cassis licorice. It has a
medium.

Al R. October 2008 Medium to full bodied, well balanced classic Bordeaux. Exhibits dark dried fruits, BBQ smoke, and some earthiness. I'm glad I have another bottle as I think it will improve over the next 5 - 10 years. |

There is a lot of color in this Bordeaux with dark plum, ruby and plum. the aromas are of black olive, cedar, cassis licorice and damp earth. It has a full medium to full bodiless to it. |
About 2001 Lynch Bages Bordeaux Blend
About the Winery Lynch Bages
"The Lynch-Bages estate (90 hectares) is located just outside the city of Pauillac, overlooking the Gironde estuary, on one of the most beautiful gravelly outcrops in the appellation.
The well-drained soil consists mainly of Garonne gravel. The sub-soil (marl, chalk, and thick clay-sand gravel, or hardpan) forms a solid, but fairly disjointed foundation, enabling the roots of old vines to grow to a depth of 6-8 metres."

About the Wine
"Almost opaque wine. An imposing concentration of ripe fruits mixed with smoky undertones. Firm tannins are hidden by the richness of the fruits and its balancing acidity. A powerful wine."
