The 2001 Barbaresco Martinenga, a medium ruby, is the estate’s entry-level Barbaresco. It is delicate and floral on the nose, with flavors of spices, bright red cherry fruit, menthol and licorice on a classically-styled, medium-bodied frame of great length. It is the most accessible of these Barbarescos. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2013.

I was very much taken by the 2001 Barbaresco Martinenga, the regular bottling, very fragrant with iris and rose petal aromas and much cherry and strawberry fruit, long and fresh in flavor, satiny in texture, and with plenty of length as well. The superior balance of the wine indicates a decade of life ahead.
