94 points,

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2007

The super-finessed 2001 Ornellaia (65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc) opens with a deeply expressive nose. It is a concentrated, full-bodied effort. The appearance of tobacco and licorice suggest that this wine is entering the early portion of is maturity, but there is plenty of fruit as well as structure to support another decade of aging. 94/Anticipated maturity: 2007-2017.

94 points,

Stephen Tanzer's IWC, October 2004

(14. 6% alcohol). Saturated ruby-red. Flamboyant, upfront aromas of black- and redcurrant, raspberry, strawberry, chocolate, mocha and violet pastille. Big, rich, sweet and deep, with superripe, distinctly Mediterranean flavors of blueberry, strawberry and chocolate, kept fresh by sound acidity. Conveys an impression of powerful extract. Finishes with superb, noble tannins and mounting flavors of red fruits, licorice and chocolate. This extremely young wine's solid structure is currently hidden by its sheer chewy sweetness of fruit. This was the first vintage made by Duroux, and it struck me as especially strong in extract if a bit youthfully disorganized. But note that I tasted it about nine months before it was scheduled to be released.

Incredible class here, with ultrafine tannins and layers of currants, berries and lightly toasted oak. Full-bodied, yet all in harmony and beauty. Beautifully sculptured. Excellent length. Not quite the 1998, but clearly classic. Best after 2005. 12,920 cases made. –JS

About Winery

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia is situated on the Via Bolgherese in a triangle between the sea, the medieval hamlet of Bolgheri and the town of Castagneto Carducci. To get there, one travels up part of the historic `cypress avenue' celebrated by the poet Giosuč Carducci. The estate comprises 240 acres planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Since 1981, when Tenuta dell'Ornellaia was established, this beautiful and unspoiled area has become synonymous with winemaking of the first order and the philosophy of `quality without compromise.'
