Alex Lallos, JJ Buckley, September 2008

Dark ruby core with a light ruby rim. Aromas are beautifully complex with ripe blackberry, plums, and sweet cherry complimented by subtle anise and minerals. Supple mid-palate stuffed with bright red fruits and red licorice. Medium to full-bodied, the extra fine tannins continue to build throughout the palate. Showing great purity, length and concentration. Drinking well now, but can also go another 5-10 years.

Mike Supple, JJ Buckley, June 2008

Medium ruby core with a vibrant ruby and garnet rim. Candied licorice and black cherry aromas are surrounded by some lighter sweet floral and herbal notes with a darker core of earth and slate. Soft entry on the palate with lots of rich dark fruit. Round and approachable tannins support the wine from front to back. Ripe plum and cassis lead to lingering scorched coffee beans with a spicy black licorice finish.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2005

A strong effort in this difficult year, the 2002 La Confession avoids the hardness, austerity, and angularity of many of its right bank peers. This deep ruby/purple-colored effort reveals aromas and flavors of charcoal, black currants, sweet cherries, and licorice. Medium-bodied, powerful, pure, and moderately tannic, it should be drinkable between 2008-2017. With only three vintages under his belt for this particular estate, Jean-Philippe Janoueix (also the creative force behind the Pomerol, La Croix St.-Georges, and the Lalande-de-Pomerol, Chambrun) has burst on the scene with impressive offerings beginning in 2001. La Confession is given malolactic in barrel, extended lees contact, or what the Bordelais call a classic elevage Bourguignon, and is bottled unfined and unfiltered. It is a blend of 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot.
