2002 Pavie Bordeaux Blend
Reviews of 2002 Pavie Bordeaux Blend
Mike Supple, JJ Buckley January 2007 Aromas of roasted vanilla bean under dark fruits: black cherry, black raspberry and cassis. On the palate the wine enters soft, and builds well in the mid-palate to a nice full, lush wine. Considering how intense the new oak usually is in Pavie, the oak tones have integrated very well with the fruit and accent the dark rich cherry and cranberry with a nice spicy hint of cedar and vanilla. Light minerality carries the fruit in to the finish. Starting to be drinkable right now, and should age for many more years.
94 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate January 2005 While not as legendary as Pavie's 2003, 2001, 2000, 1999, or 1998, the 2002 is one of the top wines of the vintage. Its deep plum/ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of fruitcake, cranberries, cherry liqueur, crushed rocks, and subtle oak. Savory, full-bodied, remarkably concentrated, layered, and forward for a Pavie, it should be accessible in 3-4 years, and will evolve effortlessly for two decades.
92 points, Stephen Tanzer May 2005 Ruby-red. Aromas of black raspberry, tobacco, minerals and mocha. Suave, silky, lush and round; quite full but with lovely inner-mouth energy and aromatic character. Seamless, deep flavors of redcurrant, fruitcake and minerals. Finishes with excellent mounting persistence, the dusty, fine tannins buried in fruit. A terrific effort for the vintage, and likely to age gracefully over the next decade or two.
93 points, Wine Spectator March 2005 Dark color with complex aromas of blackberries, flowers and mace with undertones of nutmeg. Full-bodied, with a solid core of velvety tannins and ripe fruit. Goes on and on...

There is a deepness to the purple and red coloring that
pulls you in. The aromas of fruit cake, cranberries, and subtle oak. Make you
almost want to chew this full bodied Bordeaux

About 2002 Pavie Bordeaux Blend
About the Winery Pavie
"Gérard Perse (already at Montbousquet and Pavie-Decesse), has returned this property to its former glory. It is situated on the most beautiful hillside of Saint-Emilion, with chalky-clay terroirs, and sandy-clay terroir at the foot of the hill. The wines are of excellent quality, lively and immediately attractive, but which should be kept for at least ten years..."
