Cory Gowan, JJ Buckley, September 2010

Dark, translucent red to a glowing pink rim with hints of brick at the very edge. Unmistakably Pomerol. with a nose of wild mushrooms, iron, hints of milk chocolate, and black cherry. With the passing of eight years, it seems safe to say that it has proven the fruit core could stand the test of time, and it still has an assuring freshness. The finish is superlative--very long and focused with soft, silky sweet tannins. It should last for another 5-8 years, possibly longer. However, if you're looking to experience bottle-aged Pomerol now without breaking the bank, this is a sound choice, as the 2002 is a very well-balanced, elegant Pomerol that, with a little decanting, is drinking quite well.

90 points,

Stephen Tanzer's IWC, June 2005

Moderately saturated medium red. Subtly sweet aromas of maraschino cherry, iron and minerals. Suave on entry, then sweet, supple and fine-grained, with captivating, somewhat cool red berry, floral and smoky oak flavors. Not a powerful or hugely deep style, but floral and classy. Finishes with firm tannins that avoid dryness.

90 points,

Wine Spectator, March 2005

You have to like the plum, floral and berry aromas in this wine. Medium- to full-bodied, with firm tannins and a silky finish. Subtle sweet fruit at the end. Best after 2007. 1,665 cases made. -JS

About Winery

Château Trotanoy is part of the Moueix family portfolio, which includes Pétrus, one of the auction world's top performers. Trotanoy's vineyards are located on the high western slope of the Pomerol plateau and are just a stone's throw away from the vineyards of Pétrus. In fact, many collectors seek this Merlot-based wine because it is made in a similar style to Pétrus, yet it can be purchased for a fraction of the price.
