Stephen Tanzer's IWC, April 2005
(this and the Reas are 14.2% alcohol) From a new "magic cask" from Dominique Laurent: Deep red-ruby. Smoky redcurrant, red plum, spices, espresso and a hint of game on the musky nose. Sweet, smooth and fine-grained, with good spice character in the mid-palate. From a new barrel: Nose dominated by black fruits and minerals, with a bit more oak char showing. Dense and firmly tannic, less showy than the first sample. From a 2002 barrel: Red-ruby. Blackberry, blueberry, violet and licorice on the nose. Glyceral but firm, with sweet dark berry flavors nicely framed by ripe acids. Doesn't show the fat of the samples from new oak but conveys an impression of solid structure and firmness. 89-91 points
