Notes of pepper, dried herbs, damp earth, sweet cherry liqueur, and chocolate-infused coffee jump from the glass of the 2003 Merlot (96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc). Production was less than in 2002, with 9,315 cases made. It is a big, dense, full-throttle Merlot that should age nicely for 10-15 years. This is a top-flight single-vineyard wine aged completely in French oak, which is in total contrast to the wines made at Silver Oak.

Red-ruby. Dark plum, redcurrant, flowers and spices on the nose. Rich, plump and ripe but dry and serious, with complex flavors of plum, redcurrant, tobacco, leather and mocha. Finishes with lush, ripe tannins and a rather sophisticated texture.Lacks only the length for an outstanding rating.
