Sophisticated yet somewhat closed aromatically is the 2003 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard. This can be a show stopper, so I was surprised that it didn’t jump from the glass. Orange blossom, crushed rock, lemon zest, and tropical fruit all make an appearance in this impeccably well-made, medium to full-bodied wine that is more generous in the mouth than the reticent aromatics suggest. It should drink well for 5-7 years.

About the Winery Kistler
Kistler Vineyards is a small family-owned winery based in the Russian
River Valley. They specialize in the production of Burgundian-style
Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. It was founded in 1978 by the Kistler
family. The first vintage in 1979 produced around 3000 cases and the
winery has slowly been growing towards its goal level of production,
25,000 cases per annum. The source their grapes from some of the
finest Napa and Sonoma County vineyards and they produce their own
estate-grown and produced wines as well.
