Drinking beautifully, the 100% Marsanne, 2004 M. Chapoutier St. Joseph Blanc Les Granits delivers a classic array of tropical fruits, orange blossom, fennel, mineral, and green almonds that flows to a medium to full-bodied, rich, yet fresh, and clean finish. Dry, brilliantly concentrated and rich, yet with perfect balance, a elegant feel, and serious length, this classic Marsanne will continue to impress for another decade or more.

The 2004 St.-Joseph Les Granits blanc is a wine with a light gold color, notes of marzipan, honeyed oranges, and lemon butter with amazing fruit, full body, and extraordinary richness and size. The wine is showing better from bottle than it did last year.

Fat and juicy, with lots of melon, creamed peach, dried pineapple and butter notes, all framed nicely by a hint of hazelnut and a buried minerality. The long finish lets the fruit, mineral and floral notes strut their stuff. This should gain greater elegance as it ages. Drink now through 2015. 200 cases made. -JM
