Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, June 2009

The estate's 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is gorgeous for its clarity, elegance and precision. Medium in body, the wine reveals ripe red cherries, mint, minerals, tobacco and licorice in a taut, medium-bodied style. Today the Brunello is fairly tightly wound, but it should be a beauty once the tannins soften somewhat. This is a wine of grace, purity and superb balance. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024. -Antonio Galloni

Wine & Spirits, April 2010

Under this wine's scents of dark herbs and roses, there's some initial reduction that needs air to relent. Beyond that lies a fresh and mouthwatering wine, with gentle tannins and potent black fruit-until you come back later, when the tannins seem potent and the fruit more accommodating. Either way, the textural weave melds the wine into a harmonious whole, needing age to show its best. To cellar four years or more.

Wine Spectator, July 2009

Raspberries, blackberries and minerals on the nose follow through to a medium body, with bright acidity. Clean and bright. A little austere for the vintage. Best after 2010. 20,800 cases made. -JS

About Winery

La Tenuta Col d'Orcia in Tuscany can trace its lineage back to the 17th century, when the Italian noble family Della Ciaia constructed an estate in the area of Sant'Angelo in Colle which grew more vast year after year. It has passed through many generations of competing noble families.  In 1973, Count Alberto Marone Cinzano, re-planted the vineyards in order to put the Brunello on the map and make it competitive on the world market. Presently, Alberto's son Count Francesco Marone Cinzano is the president of the company and has teamed up with several distinguished universities in Italy to research enology and viticulture.  The research into the new coupled with Cinzano's dedication to the traditional Brunello has allowed for the production of a truly elegant set of wines that represent Montalcino.
