The 2004 Affinity, which is sourced from the Tulocay estate in southern Napa Valley, is a dark ruby/purple-hued, elegant effort displaying notes of lead pencil, new wood, spice, and black cherries. Bordeaux-like in its weight, texture, and austere, dry tannins, this finesse-styled red possesses good flavors, purity, and overall balance. It should drink nicely for 7-8 years. Tel. Tight, firmly structured and still a bit chunky, with a chewy mix of tannins and cedary oak overriding the spicy currant, herb, tar and black olive notes. But the fruit pours through on the finish, so decant for now. Drink now through 2012. 3,640 cases made. –JL
