Reviews of 2004 Jadot, Louis Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru Pinot Noir
91-94 points, Burghound April 2006 It's immediately clear that this is a step up in both elegance and aromatic breadth with the impressive mélange of spiced earth and smoked game notes and red and black pinot fruit aromas that merge seamlessly into the classy, pure and refined flavors that are more accessible than usual yet they retain obvious power, muscle and finishing punch. There is a real sense of drive and energy, particularly on the explosive backend.
Mike Supple, JJ Buckley February 2008 Solid ruby core with a lighter rim fading to a touch of garnet. Very rich aromas. Sweet brown sugar leads in to ripe black cherry and plum supported by cool late, black truffles, earth, smoky chorizo and a light crushed violet lift. Soft entry in the mouth; very round with nice acidity. Chocolate and black cherries are backed by slate, truffles, baking spices and chorizo. Drink over the next 5 or so years.
90-93 points, Stephen Tanzer March 2006 Medium red. Brown spices, chocolate and minerals on the nose. Silky on entry, then broad in the middle, spreading out impressively to coat the palate. But coolly elegant rather than big-boned. Finishes quite persistent, with some apparent wood tannins.
About 2004 Jadot, Louis Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru Pinot Noir
About the Winery Jadot, Louis
Louis Henry Denis Jadot found Maison Louis Jadot in 1859. He began as a negociant
and the business expanded rapidly with a focus on the markets of
northern Europe. His son Louis Jean Baptiste took over the business in
1900 and began his reign by purchasing numerous vineyards, including
Corton Charlemagne and Chevalier Montrachet les Demoiselles. The
Maison was handed down through the generations and today the vineyards
collectively measure 154 hectares in Burgundy. The label inspires
admiration from connoisseurs around the world and Maison Louis Jadot
continues to produce some of the most elegant Burgundian wines that now
enjoy global recognition and esteem.
About the Wine
"Wines from Gevrey -Chambertin are highly coloured and with intense aromatic expression evocative of blackcurrant berries and other small red and black fruit, there are animal notes such as musk and fur, one can often pick out an aroma of liquorice in mature wine. They are powerful wines, associating abundant mellowness with tannin and a good level of acidity. In general these wines are quite "square"."
