Dark purple core with a violet and ruby rim. Full, rich fruit aromas of plum, blackberry and black cherry surrounded by sweet leather and a touch of cedar. Floral aromas float around the fruit, followed by spicy cinnamon heart candy and a touch of smoke. Full bodied in the mouth with flavors of plum, cassis and black cherry dominating the palate accented by cinnamon spice. Lots of fine grained tannin and quite a bit of acidity balances the ripe fruits. Dusty cocoa powder mixes with the fruits on the finish leading to lingering fresh anise.

Good full ruby. Slightly high-toned aromas of black fruits, violet and nutty oak. Fat, dense and chewy, with excellent intensity to the blackberry flavor. Perhaps still a bit youthfully simple, but has the concentration and ripe acidity to reward time in bottle. (A second bottle, which I scored 89, showed a slightly roasted aspect and, though chewy and lush in the middle palate, finished with a trace of dryness.)

A fruit lover's wine. Broad black cherry and leather aromas set up a smooth but hefty palate with deep berry flavors, spice and smoked meat. Rich but balanced, with a heaping of heavenly chocolate on the finish. A firm and structured wine with fine depth and distance.
