2004 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve
Cabernet Sauvignon: 750ml
$109.99
about this wine:
"Making their debut in 2003, the youngest Cabernet Sauvignon vines (located on the Sonoma portion of our mountaintop property) make a stunning contribution to the first Pride Cabernet bearing a label that indicates the estate's unique position straddling the county line... the bright cherry and clove aromas in this elegantly muscular wine indicate a thoroughly rich and ripe Cabernet. Cassis and currant flavors envelope the palate, framed by a full and even tannin spectrum. Enjoyable in its youth as all of the Pride wines are, ample acidity and brightness of fruit guarantee the long-term aging potential of this beautiful wine...The richest vineyard blocks are barrel aged for an additional six months, bottled in extremely small quantities. These 100% varietals are then bottle aged for eight months prior to release. This wine is produced in extremely limited quantities and is made available only to the winery's most loyal consumers."

Bright ruby-red. Expressive nose offers black cherry, black raspberry, coffee, smoked meat and minerals. Essentially silky in texture but juicy and youthfully tight, with terrific purity of dark fruit and mineral flavor. This impressively intense wine seems more primary today than the reserve claret. Finishes very long and minerally, with building, fine-grained tannins. These top 2004 cuvees boast terrific acidity for the vintage and are likely to evolve slowly. 94(+?) points

Youthful tannins star in this young wine. The wine is dry and balanced, with a fabulous core of blackberry, cassis and smoky oak. With a drop of Petite Verdot, which adds a touch of violets, this is one of the best high mountain Cabs of the vintage. Too dry and toughly astringent to drink before 2010; should develop well through 2016, at least. S.H.
