The outstanding 2005 Ermitage La Sizeranne shows classic graphite, pen ink, and creme de cassis notes, a dark ruby/purple color, medium to full body, good richness, and moderately high tannins. This is a rather backward, broodingly primordial style of Ermitage to age for 5-7 years and drink over the following two decades. Michel said he thinks itâ_Ts one of the best cuvees of Sizeranne made since the 1990. Importer: Terlato Wines International, Lake Bluff, IL; tel. (847) 604-8900

(from vines planted in 1905, cropped at one ton an acre in '04) Saturated, bright ruby-red. Vibrant aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, pepper and licorice. Densely packed, creamy and intense, with strong acids giving shape and definition to the dense dark berry flavors. This has compelling sweetness, with a percentage of intermixed dark grapes giving the wine added complexity.
