This rich Merlot from Frescobaldi's Tenuta di Castelgiocondo estate in Montalcino offers inky black consistency and aromas of red beet, moist earth, ash and smoked bacon backed by loads of plump blackberry. It's sweet and succulent in the mouth with chewy tannins and a very attractive velvety feel on the close. M.L.
